A Tribute to Sun Records
Sun Records played a pivotal role in the history of music, helping to shape the sounds and genres of the music coming out of Nashville! Founded in 1952 by Sam Phillips in Memphis, Sun Records blossomed into a record label known for its groundbreaking recordings that came straight from emerging artists who would eventually become stars.
Sun Records’ first major breakthrough came in 1954 with the release of “That’s All Right” by a young Elvis Presley! Elvis gained popularity for fusing the blues, country and R&B into a never-before-heard genre that would skyrocket in popularity. This new style of music began spreading its wings, becoming increasingly popular and marking a turning point in popular music.
Elvis would later release hits like “Blue Moon of Kentucky” and “Mystery Train”, propelling the King of Rock and Roll to stardom and cementing Sun Records’ place in the history of music. Sun Records helped to launch the career of Johnny Cash, who signed with Sun Records in 1955. Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Roy Orbison were all associated with Sun Records.
